There’s hardly a better way to take in Kaikoura’s vast scenery and fresh air than on a bike.
Road cycling is easily accessble to all. Just hire a bicycle or BYO.
But the network of bike tracks and trails around Kaikoura has increased in recent years thanks to the efforts of local mountain biking enthusiasts and the Kaikoura Cycling Club.
These trails are located both close to Kaikoura, and some further out in the surrounding region.
If you want to stay close to town on your bike, the Kaikōura Trail will not disappoint. It’s an easy to moderate trail of great length: 42km in total. Ride a few kilometres and enjoy the views, or set off to conquer the whole track – the choice is yours. This is a loop trail that takes you all the way around Kaikoura and back.
There’s no specific starting point. Just hop on to the trail from wherever you might be, like along the Esplanade or the Foreshore.
